THE DE SOTO EXPEDITION

This is the gentleman of Elvas' account of Hernando de Soto's travels through the present-day Southeastern United States.

It is taken from Spanish Explorers in the Southern United States, 1528-1542 [pp.273-387], the second volume of J. Franklin Jameson's Original Narratives of Early American History, published by Charles Scribner's Sons of New York in 1907. Cabeza de Vaca's story is edited by Frederick W. Hodge. Headings are Hodge's own.
